the horn, mt buffalo
/Ever wanted to know how a bird - or maybe more accurately, a Bogong Moth - views the world below them? Perched on top of giant granite boulders, high above the Australian Alps, you will.
And, it wouldn’t be Mount Buffalo without a few picnic tables! So rest assured, you can enjoy the spectacular sights while nibbling on some lunch at one of the tables by the little stone hut which protrudes out over the valley below.
From there, and strictly for kids with stamina, you can climb the short but steep trek up, up, up to the very top! Once at the summit, you can marvel at the many majestic mountains that make up the Bogong area of the Alpine National Park, expanding as far into the horizon as your eyesight will allow you to see. It is alarmingly breathtaking.
This is an adventure made for the warmer months, when the track isn’t slippery and wet and the road is not closed due to snow. It is a beautiful destination, and part of what makes the ski slopes so fab, even in the summertime.
Mamma’s special mention: After this, head on down to Lake Catani for a swim and cool off!
the nitty gritty
carpark - no potable water - take your rubbish - toilets - pack water and appropriate clothing - - no dogs (national park) - check ahead for road closures
