liverpool road retarding basin, boronia
/Nothing beats fresh air and sunshine so what better way to start your day than a walk around the Liverpool Road Retarding Basin. With the Dandenong Ranges as a backdrop it is so beautiful.
The Retarding Basin was developed to store storm water during high rainfall. It prevents flooding down stream along the creek and water is released when safe.
It’s a great spot to get to nice and early before the sun get too hot. It’s not an overly long walk - around 30 minutes at a relaxed pace. In saying that it might take a while to do the loop if your little ones are adventurers. Mamma’s littles ones happily explored through the long grass and found a teepee, as well as stopping at every tree and rock.
The walk is mostly flat (with one hill that gives your legs a good workout if you have the pram). Perfect for little kids and bikes - just walk that little bit.
Pack the binoculars and keep an eye out for the special wildlife including platypus, toadlets and owls. Mamma also recommends a magnifying glass and bug catcher for extra adventure. And don’t forget to bring your fur babies, they will love the walk and a swim in the basin.
If your little ones are a bit unsure of dogs, be mindful that there’s some off leash dog areas.
