This has to be Mamma’s absolute favourite way to have EVER experienced the Yarra Valley and it is a total bucket list experience!
Heading up on a hot air balloon ride is one of the most amazing experiences. The silence and tranquillity of floating above the clouds, above the stunning vineyards and all while the sun makes its way up over the mountains - it is just breathtaking.
Go Wild Ballooning have been operating in the Valley for years. Taking thousands of visitors up into the fresh morning air is what they do best, and it is a full on adventure for all involved.
You’ll meet the crew under the cover of darkness - and plenty of fog, depending of the time of year - before heading to one of their many launch sites nearby. Then, it’s all hands on deck to assist to fill the balloon and load up before making your way to the sky.
The process is easy and the whole family can ride, provided they are older than 6 years. It is a big morning, starting well before sunrise, so consider the attention span of your kiddos before bringing them along. Mamma’s 9 year old reports “This is the second best day of my life!” and the 6 year old loved about 20 minutes of the flight.
Although the burners are loud, you soon become accustomed to the sound. Our time in the air lasted about an hour and, then again, it’s the team work that makes the dream work, everyone helps in rolling up the gear before heading back to base.
