abbotsford convent, abbotsford

How incredibly lucky we are to have a piece of our city's history available for all to visit. The grounds of the Abbotsford Convent are almost from another world and certainly not of this time. The space is open to the public to explore, to grab a bite to eat from one of the three eateries or to join in on a class in one of the many art spaces. Mamma and the gang used the Visitor App to help explain where we were and learn a little of the history behind the walls. However, it was the big open space in the courtyards, the little hidden toyshop and the magnificent GOLD building that inspired us most.

The space is mostly accessible for prams (although the cobblestones make it a bumpy ride) but you won't be able to get everywhere. For grabbing a snack, Mamma's pick for a quick bite with lots of ready made deliciousness, is the Convent Bakery.

Mamma's special mentions: There is always a buzz of activity at the Convent with kids classes running throughout the week and school holiday programs. Keep up to date with all the going ons HERE. Oh, Mamma almost forgot - The Farm! Collingwood Children's Farm is right next door and a must do for the kids of Melbourne. PLUS the Vegan Market of Melbourne is here on the first Saturday of the month and Abbotsford Farmers' Market, Fourth Saturday of the month
