st andrews market, st andrews
/If you are keen on going up some windy roads into the dusty bush of Nillumbik, there is a famous bush market that runs EVERY Saturday morning. Think farmers market crossed with tye-dye clothing mixed with feathers and a couple of bush tee-pees, and you have St Andrews Community Market. This community institution is a welcoming, no-fuss affair with stallholders selling everything from bread, soap, flowers and mushrooms. Have your back worked on at the massage stand and your hair braided while you are at it. Share a cup of chai tea and rest on the couch pillows at the top of the hill before filling your baskets with amazingly fresh, local produce.
This bush market is a great place to share with the kids. There are some bush cubbies up on the hill to explore, pony rides and, of course, a life-saving $2 wand of streamers. Best not to wear white and throw the kids in their runners or gumboots.
St Andrews Community Market is a great way to get the little ones out over the weekend. There are loads to do in and around St Andrews that can make it a fun day for all.
