dandenong market, dandenong
/You will be hard pressed to find a spot that is more multicultural and diverse than the Dandenong Market. There are claims to be over 150 nationalities under the one roof and they are all here for the one reason - good food! Whether it is fresh fruit and veg, meats and seafood, breads and biscuits or the most amazing varieties of spices - you are sure to find what you are looking for here at the 150 year old market.
The market is known for its variety of flavours and you HAVE to make sure you pick up some lunch before making your way back to the car. The street food is phenomenal and the good-old Dandee Doughnuts are a tradition that can't be skipped. You also have to try a sugar cane juice - a super food drink, or so Mamma has been told - that is super delicious when mixed with ginger, chilli and kumquat. The Bazaar is also a great place to find all sorts of bits and pieces from clothing, to toys, watch repairs and hats. There is even a playground so the kids can have a run around and expend that energy before ‘helping’ mamma with the shopping.
There is always something happening at the market, especially for the kids with school holiday activities and weekend fun! Check the website for up to date details of what is on offer.
Mamma's special mention: A pram with storage is ALWAYS a good idea when visiting ANY market, especially one as hustling and bustling as this one! AND remember to bring the coins along for the parking onsite.
