toorongo falls and amphitheatre falls, noojee
/Us kids of the 90s were told not to chase them… but honestly… finding waterfalls is Mamma’s favourite outdoor activity. The falls that you find in Noojee are absolutely stunning plus there are two of them. In the Toorongo Falls Reserve you will discover a kid friendly (not with the pram though) bush walk along a well formed trail.
As you weave your way through the forest, across a bridge over cascading rapids, then into the hills, you will uncover Toorongo Falls and Amphitheatre Falls. Both waterfalls have a platform look out and it is mesmerising to watch the waters roll down the rock faces. If the water is pumping, it sure can be loud.
The trail is a loop and Mamma suggests tackling this in an anti clockwise direction so you reach Toorongo Falls first. It is 750m uphill to this platform, then the trail levels out across the top to the Amphitheatre Falls, then back downhill alongside the most beautiful moss covered river. The loop is a total of 2.2km and worth every step.
The stairs are steep in some sections but Mamma found that the track is not too gruelling and is a rather pleasant way to spend an hour or so in the bush. Signs do say it can be slippery when wet, and although it was a little boggy on this visit, we all managed to stay on our feet (but still enjoyed a fresh pair of trackies and socks when we got back to the car).
