the backyard sessions, ringwood
/You would be completely forgiven for thinking you were in inner Melbourne town - Brunswick or Fitzroy. But no - The Backyard is in the heart of Ringwood, a stones throw from Town Square. The space behind Urbanlife and The Stockroom is like no other in the eastern suburbs.
Dozens of murals and street art from some of the country's top urban artists, have contributed to making this space into an awe inspiring outdoor gallery. Super talented female artists including 23rd Key, Hayley Welsh and Deb, have all created gigantic and magnificent portraits and paintings.
The largest and most beautiful has to be the Strong Sistas piece - featuring portraits of local aboriginal women, spanning three generations. You will also spy a Tassie Devil, a Kanye, a melting ice-cream and plenty of other treasures!
The space is fenced off and there is no public access at present, although you can spy some of the works through the fence next to The Stockroom. However, the space will be OPEN on Saturday February 24th for The Backyard Session with Jetty Road performing. The event is FREE with gates opening 5.30pm and concerts start 6.00pm and there will be food from The Cellar Door available for purchase.
Mamma's special mention:
There is always plenty of art to explore throughout Maroondah. If you are in the area, be sure to visit Artspace at REALM.
