spirits of the sky @ healesville sanctuary, healesville
/Spirits in the Sky is an absolute must - in fact, we often take visitors to Healesville Sanctuary just to see this exhibition. It is a great way to learn about some of our beautiful Australia birds.
The show begins with the indigenous creation story of Bunjil - as you listen a Black Kyte glides around the flight arena seemingly just of its own accord! The bird trainer or ‘falconer’ enters the arena and you realise the Kyte is well trained to show off it’s flying and raptor skills. It is amazing to see so close. The opening sets the scene for the rest of the ‘show’. Watch mesmerised by a Black Breasted Buzzard hopping around the grass and smash an emu egg open with a rock, we loved the majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle, it flies so close you can feel the beat of its wing…meet Parrots, Cockatoo’s, Galah’s and Mamma’s fave Rusty the Nankeen kestrel.
This is a great show and FREE with your entry to Healesville Sanctuary. Don’t panic about getting there early - there is PLENTY of space, pram parking and anywhere in the flight arena is a good viewpoint.
Mamma's special mentions: Mamma says - there is still HEAPS to see at Healesville Sanctuary. Be sure to take the kiddos to dress up with Future Vets at the Wildlife Health Centre, paddle in Badger Creek over the summer and have a play in the nature playgrounds.
