markham reserve, ashburton
/Markham Reserve is a wicked playspace overlooked by four cheeky kookaburras. If you are anything like Mamma, and there is a story to a playspace, it gives it a couple of extra gold stars. The reserve on the whole is wonderful and the gumnuts and 'creek' running through the playground gives it a true dinky-die Aussie bush feeling. The massive long wooden play structure that dominates the middle of the playground is beautiful and Bubs loves running up and down before playing hide and seek in the 'forest'. It is a great space for toddlers with plenty of easy to climb structures and slides as well as a nice big climbing frame for bigger kids, not to mention the skatepark and basketball court just next door. The sandpit is covered and is big enough to share with the whole neighbourhood. PLUS there are some new epic shade sales over most of the playground!
Mamma's special mention: for a coffee stop off on the way to the park (unfortunately there are not any really close) the hot tip is Mr Burton back in the Ashburton shops.
