the prince of yazh, dandenong
/Mammas of Dandenong, if the family loves Sri Lankan flavours and spice then it’s time to pop The Prince of Yazh (pronounced “yarl”) on your list!
This is the quintessential family run restaurant , with a husband and wife duo at the helm, mum in the kitchen and a 3 year old daughter aka “The Boss” working the floor - Prince of Yazh is the place you go when you want a home cooked meal you didn’t have to cook yourself. Little miss 4 had such a ball playing with The Boss and all the toys on offer, that it was certainly a sad goodbye at the end of the night.
Famous for their seafood dishes (Mamma recommends the prawn fry and squid curry!), they also cater to the little ones’ pallet with a children’s menu that focusses on more delicate flavours such as dhal with rice/roti or string hopper kottu (think noodles mixed with fried rice) - which the kids absolutely scoffed down. There are loads of vegetarian options on the menu too so meat free mammas are well looked after here!
They source most of their meat and produce just down the road at Dandenong Market, so you know the food is local, fresh and yum to boot.
If you’re hungry, head there on a Sunday when they have all you can eat banana leaf thali (rice and curry) for lunch and all you can eat hoppers (thin bowl shaped savoury pancakes) after 5pm. Bookings encouraged.
