david road christmas lights, lilydale
/When the calendar ticks over to the 1st of December and the local streets start to glow with that Christmas twinkle, it makes Mamma’s heart flutter. There is nothing that brings the community together like an after dinner stroll through the neighbourhood to see the pretty lights.
Of course, we also know that sunset and preschoolers bedtimes feel like years apart some days, so visiting Christmas lights with youngsters can be hard. That is where absolute treasures, like David Street in Lilydale, are real gold. There is more than just the lights!
The owners here LOVE Christmas and each year they start planning in September (yes I know!) their amazing display. The front yard becomes a wonderland with Santas, train tracks, bubble machines and an entire herd of reindeer. Lots of these displays are sound activated and delight all that come through the gate PLUS it doesn’t have to be totally dark to enjoy! This year they have also set up a projector screen for some festive flicks.
Families from the local streets will often visit multiple times during December and the giggles and joy make a dusk adventure worth while.
